Rakus Picks Up ECAC Coaches' Choice Award

PHILADELPHIA— The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its first set of weekly women's gymnastics' awards on Tuesday afternoon. On the first honor roll of the season, Temple sophomore Taylor Rakus was included, as she was tabbed with this week's Coaches' Choice award .

Rakus returned to competition for the first time since tearing an anterior cruciate ligament during her senior year of high school, causing her to redshirt her first collegiate season for the Owls.

On Sunday, the Downingtown, Pa. native finally got to make her debut for the Cherry & White when she took part on the balanced beam at the annual Lindsey Ferris Invite, hosted by George Washington.

Competing for the Owls in head coach Aaron Murphy's beam lineup, Rakus nailed her routine and posted a 9.600 in her first collegiate event. Her score, which tied her for 11th place among all individuals in the event, helped spur Temple to a first place team score of 48.175 on the apparatus, beating out Penn, UNC, host George Washington and Cornell.

Rakus and her Temple teammates will make their way to the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday for a 7:00 p.m. tri-meet against Maryland, New Hampshire and host Pitt.
