PHILADELPHIA - Looking to rebound after a narrow loss earlier this week, Temple women's basketball will head to Pittsburgh this weekend to take on Duquense. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at the A.J. Palumbo Center. The Owls (7-9, 1-1) will face a challenging team in the Dukes (13-3, 2-0), who are having a strong season and have defeated two opponents ranked in the Top 25.

THE OPENING TIP
•Fifth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza got the 100th win of her career in the Owls' 67-59 win at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 13...The milestone came in Temple's A-10 opener, and against the only team to defeat the Owls in the A-10 regular season last year.
•Cardoza is now 100-47, and reached her 100th win four games sooner than her predecessor Dawn Staley, who had 50 losses  before reaching 100 wins.
•After winning two in a row, the Owls suffered a tough, 53-51 loss to VCU in their A-10 home opener on Jan. 16...Temple was scoreless for eight minutes of the second half, but narrowed an 11-point gap to two in the final minutes...The Owls had two shots to tie the game in the last 17 seconds but missed both attempts.
•Senior Victoria Macaulay is both the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week and the Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Player of the Week.
•Macaulay notched her seventh double-double with a game-high 23 points and a game-high 12 rebounds at St. Bonaventure.
•Sophomore Rateska Brown shouldered the load against VCU, scoring a career-high 22 points, hitting a career-high six three-pointers, and leading all players with a career-high six steals...She was the only Owl to reach double figures in scoring.
•Four recent losses were to teams with strong records, Georgetown (9-4), Michigan State (12-1), Villanova (9-1) and Auburn (8-2).
•Temple is still the only team to defeat Syracuse this season back on Dec. 2...The Orangewomen are now 15-1 and ranked 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
•Temple has six freshmen on a roster of 11, making the Owls the second-most inexperienced team in NCAA Division I women's basketball this season (San Jose State is in the top spot).
•Duquesne is 13-3 overall and was receiving votes in the national polls until a recent loss to Miami (OH)...The Dukes have wins over then-17th ranked Delaware and then-20th ranked West Virginia...They are 2-0 in A-10 play so far.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE
Duquesne has two wins over ranked teams and a 13-3 overall record so far this season. The Dukes are 2-0 in A-10 play after a narrow, 56-54 at Xavier followed by a 68-41 win over Saint Louis this past Wednesday. Duquesne suffered just one loss in its first 12 games, which included wins over #17 Delaware and #20 West Virginia. In a re-match vs. Delaware on Dec. 30, the Dukes were unable to pull off the upset a second time. Wumi Agunbiade leads Duquesne with 12.9 ppg and 7.6 rpg.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST DUQUESNE
Temple is 32-11 all-time against Duquesne with a 15-1 record over the last 12 years. Duquesne's lone win was a 68-57 decision in Pittsburgh in 2009. Last season the Owls edged the Dukes 67-64 in Philadelphia and won 64-55 in the A-10 Tournament Quarterfinals at Saint Joseph's on March 3. In 2010-11, the Owls won in Pittsburgh, 61-52.

COLD SPELL LEADS TO FIRST A-10 LOSS
In a game that had been close most of the way, an eight-minute scoreless stretch for the Owls in the second half against VCU proved too much to overcome. In the final minutes Temple cut an 11-point deficit to two after a 13-4 run, but could not tie the game despite having 17 seconds to do so on its final possession. The Owls shot a season-worst 28.6 percent from the field (20-of-70), and had only one player reach double figures as Rateska Brown scored a career-high 22 points.

CARDOZA WINS THE 100TH GAME OF HER CAREER
Fifth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza got the 100th win of her career in the Owls' 67-59 win at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 13. The milestone came in Temple's A-10 opener, which was against the only team to defeat the Owls in the A-10 regular season last year. Cardoza is now 100-46, and reached her 100th win four games sooner than her predecessor Dawn Staley, who had 50 losses before reaching 100 wins.

MACAULAY HONORED AFTER BIG WEEK
Victoria Macaulay led the Owls to a 2-0 week with wins over Western Michigan and St. Bonaventure, and was recognized as the A-10 co-Player of the Week, the co-Big 5 Player of the Week, and the Under Armour OwlSports.com Player of the Week. She scored a game-high 23 points to go with a game-high 12 rebounds against the Bonnies, and scored a game-high 22 points in the win vs. Western Michigan.

SWEET REVENGE
The only blemish on Temple's A-10 slate last season was a loss to St. Bonaventure, and the Owls have now already avenged that defeat with a win over the Bonnies in this year's A-10 opener. The 67-59 win was not an easy one, as Temple trailed by seven with six minutes left. The Owls closed the game on an impressive, 19-4 run to come away victorious and give head coach Tonya Cardoza the 100th win of her career.

LEARNING NOT TO LET GO
After struggling mightily with their ball-handling for much of the non-conference season, the Owls have now recorded fewer turnovers in the last three games than in any game before. They committed just 12 in the win vs. Western Michigan on Jan. 7, and then a season-low 10 in the win at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 13. Against VCU on Jan. 16, the Owls had 13 turnovers. The three games were the first three in which Temple recorded fewer turnovers than its opponent.

TRENDING
Some trends have emerged after Temple's first 16 games of the season. The most noticeable trends including the Owls being 7-3 when out-rebounding opponents, going 0-6 when being out-rebounded, going 5-2 when their starters outscore the opponents' starters, and going 4-0 when scoring 65 or more points.

WILLIAMS TIES RECORD WITH 12 ASSISTS
Sophomore Tyonna Williams dished 12 assists in the Owls' win vs. Western Michigan on Jan. 7, tying the Liacouras Center record for assists in a game. Her performance also ties for third all-time at Temple in a single game. Williams added 13 points to finish with the second double-double of the season and of her career.

TOUGH SCHEDULING
After the first 13 games of the season, the RPI report from rpiratings.com had Temple's schedule listed as the eighth-toughest among NCAA Division I teams. Others in the top eight included Stanford (1st), Tennessee (2nd), Baylor (3rd) and Connecticut (4th). The list updates each week, and Temple's recent opponents have pushed the Owls further down the ranks.

MACAULAY TAKING CHARGE
Along with leading the team in a number of categories on the stat sheet, senior center Victoria Macaulay ranks high among all Atlantic 10 players in six areas. She is averaging 15.2 ppg (4th), 9.4 rpg (5th), has a  field-goal percentage of 49.5 (4th), has 2.1 blocks per game (3rd), 7.2 def. rpg (1st) and has played 34.6 minutes per game (7th). Her scoring numbers are particularly impressive when compared to the rest of her career. She averaged 3.0 ppg as a freshman, 4.6 ppg as a sophomore and 9.7 ppg as a junior.

TWO BIG WINS LOOKING BETTER AND BETTER
Two of the Owls' wins this season, which were big even at the time, are looking better and better as the season goes on. Temple defeated Syracuse on Dec. 2 to hand the Orangewomen their first loss, and it remains the only loss for Syracuse, now 15-1 and ranked 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll as of Jan. 14. Temple also defeated Bowling Green on Nov. 28, a team that handed #18/17 Dayton its only loss so far by a wide margin, 65-40.
