Owls win final match at VCU 4+1 Invite

RICHMOND, Va. – All four of Temple's women's tennis players won their singles matches, and the doubles team won by default on the way to a 5-0 victory over Morgan State on Sunday, January 20, at the VCU 4+1 Invite. The win was the first of the spring season for the Owls.
In singles action, junior Jordan Batey was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Mi'Kola Cooper. Sophomore Rebecca Breland also won in straight sets, defeating Jasmine Edwards, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Alicia Doms needed three sets, but hung on for a 6-1, 5-7, 10-8, win against Chelsi Russell. Junior Yana Mavrina rounded out the singles victories with her three-set win over Ekaterina Iakovleva, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.
In doubles play, freshman Jasmine Merali and sophomore Maame Ama Osei won by default for the point.
The Owls (1-2) are back in action on January 26 when they travel to #50 Penn State for a 2 p.m. match against the Nittany Lions.
