Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision at #49 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team came up against a tough foe in #49 Penn State, dropping a 6-1 decision to the host Nittany Lions on Saturday, January 26 at Sarni Tennis Center. The Owls dropped two doubles bouts and five of six singles matches in the loss.
PSU got on the board quickly with an 8-1 win at first doubles. Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting, ranked fourth in the ITA Atlantic region, defeated Carly Bohman and Minami Okajima, 8-1. The number two doubles tandem of Yana Mavrina and Alicia Doms put up a valiant effort, but ultimately fell to Katherine Whiteaway and Jacqueline Zuhse, 8-4.
With a 1-0 lead, Penn State continued its winning ways with Utting's straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles. Devan McCluskey made it a 3-0 match with her 6-2, 6-0 victory over Bohman at number three. Petra Januskova, ranked 27th in the nation, secured the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one over Mavrina.
Doms gave the Owls their only point with a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 victory over Carmen Sandor, ranked 12th regionally, at fourth singles. Penn State won at five and six to create the 6-1 score.
Temple is 1-3 and will be in action again on Wednesday, January 30, at #71 Princeton for a 5 p.m. match. Penn State is 3-0.
