Full Release
PHILADELPHIA – The awards continue to tumble in for Temple Women's Gymnastics. In its latest weekly honor roll released on Tuesday the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced that senior Jean Alban has been named its Gymnast of the Week. Alban, who is the third Temple gymnast to be honored by the ECAC in as many weeks, shares the Gymnast of the Week honor with University of Pennsylvania senior Dana Bonincontri.
Not expected to compete on vault, senior Jean Alban was called upon to be an alternate when teammate Natali Ruzich had to be pulled. The change set Alban up to compete as a four-event competitor for the first time since her freshman year.
Alban, who was named the 2010 ECAC Rookie of the Year before redshirting her sophomore year, took a second place score in the all-around with her career-high score of 38.150, placing her only behind New Hampshire's Austyn Forbes (39.175).
Competing in an event she wasn't exactly ready for, Alban demonstrated her senior leadership at its best, as she hit her routine on vault, scoring a 9.425. Later in the afternoon, the Springfield, Mass. native scored a season-best on bars with her earned total of 9.475.
Alban's performances on beam (9.600) and in the floor exercise (9.650) were critical, as they helped Temple secure second place as a lineup in both events.
Alban and her fellow Temple gymnasts will take the floor of the main gymnasium in Pearson-McGonigle Hall for the one and only time this season on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., where they will host the annual Ken Anderson Memorial Invitational.
