Women’s Rowing Has Solid Opening Weekend at Navy Day Regatta

Philadelphia- Temple women's crew kicked off its fall season with a solid showing at the Navy Day Regatta. The Owls raced six boats, with full team participation.
The Owls raced three boats in the women's collegiate 4+ finals. Temple boats A, B and C finished in 6th, 10th and 16th place, respectively. The Temple A boat, finishing behind U Penn B with a 15:03.38 time, was comprised of Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Blair Bradley (seat-4), Callista DiGuardia (seat-3), Lea Millio (seat-2) and Emilly Opperman (seat-1). The Temple B boat, comprised of Erin Matz (coxswain), Stephanie Barber (seat-4), Jackie Lees (seat-3), Gina Inverso (seat-2) and Grace Kroner (seat-1), finished with a time of 15.24.35 behind the U Penn C. Finishing strong in 16th place was the Temple C 4+ boat, including Julia Wolanski (coxswain), Lindsay Ackerman (seat-4), Stephanie Pennypacker (seat-3), Julie Storr (seat-2) and Eileen Smith (seat-1). The boat finished with a time of 16.28.60.
Temple's Junior Varsity 8+ boat, comprised of Julia wolanski (coxswain), Kelly Hill (seat-8), Katie Mascitelli (seat-7), Hope watson (seat-6), Devin Dakes (seat-5), Samantha Sederstrand (seat-4), Emily Leyland (seat-3), Nicole Stark (seat-2) and Kathy Bostion (seat-1), contributed to the action today with an 8th place finish in the women's junior varsity 8+ final with a time of 14:37.68.
To finish the day the Owls entered two boats into the women's open/collegiate 8+ finals. Temple boat A was comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Victoria Joye (seat-8), Kara Carson (seat-7), Megan Boyer (seat-6), Sarah Barber (seat-5), Allison Watkins (seat-4), Lauren Kidd (seat-3), Moira Meekes (seat-2) and Susan Coyne (seat 1). The bot finished in 9th place with a time if 14:13.92, behind St. Joseph's B boat. Temple boat B finished three places behind bot A, securing a 12th place finish with a time of 14:24.17. The boat featured Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Blair Bradley (seat-8), Callista DiGuardia (seat-7), Lea Millio (seat-6), Stepanie Barber (seat-5), Annie Buckley (seat- 4), Gina Inverso (seat-3), Grace Kroner (seat-2) and Emily Opperman (seat-1).
"This fall has seen a great amount of positive inter-squad competition." Said head coach Rebecca Gryzbowski on her hopes for the fall season, "We have seen some great progress and in terms of base fitness and technique we are weeks ahead of where we were at this point last year. Everyone is looking forward to some great fall racing."
