Entire Men's Tennis Team Represents at USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championship

PHILADELPHIA – The entire Temple men's tennis team will be active at the 2013 USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championship this weekend, hosted by Virginia Tech at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Play begins tomorrow, Thursday, October 17 and goes through Tuesday, October 22.
 
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete at one of the 87 USTA/ITA Regional Championships held across the country.
 
Junior Kristian Marquart is the lone Temple player in the main singles draw. The captain received a bye in the round of 32 and will face either Troy Beneck of Delaware or Aaron Capitel of George Mason in the round of 16.
 
Santiago Canete and Nicolas Paulus each got a bye in the first round of the qualifying singles draw, and are in action in the round of 16. Canete will face the winner of Penn State's Ramy Labna vs. Daniel Gray of UMBC. Paulus will take on either David Kohan of Penn State or Morgan State's Evan Ward in the second round.
 
Also playing the in the singles qualifying draw are Hicham Belkssir, Maros Januvka, Vineet Naran, Sam Rundle and Hernan Vasconez. Belkssir squares off in the round of 32 against Dan Barrus of Saint Joseph's while Januvka will take on Longwood's Mateo Cevallos. Naran takes on Eliott Labatie of UMBC, Rundle faces Chris Young of Penn State and Vasconez plays Richmond's Noah Fenton in the opening round.
 
In doubles action, four Temple tandems represent the Owls. Rundle and Naran face Mehdi Mekaoui and Harry Walshe of Duquesne in the opening round. Marquart and Belkssir drew Old Dominion's Jonas Kuwet and Zvonimir Podvinski, while Canete and Paulus team up to take on Biyik Akinshemayin and Labatie of UMBC. Rounding out the Temple duos are Januvka and Vasconez, who will face Kamal Patel and Kevin Hsieh, also of UMBC, in the opening round.
