BEDMINSTER, NJ - Temple's men's golf team may not have won the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate, but Owls sophomore Brandon Matthews took medalist honors for the first time this season and fourth in his career Tuesday at the 15-team Invitational held at the Fiddler's Elbow Country Club.
Matthews fired a five-under 67 for the round, and his two-day total of seven-under bested runner-up Jon Trasamar of Minnesota by one-stroke. Temple, which led the field after the first round, placed second overall to Minnesota. Â
Senior Matt Crescenzo, who was tied for the lead after the first day, placed fifth overall with an even-par 144. Junior Matt Teesdale (71-76, 147) was third for the Owls and tied for 11th overall. Senior Russell Hartung (77-85, 162) ended tied for 62nd while freshman Evan Galbreath (82-83, 165) rounded out the Owls in a tie for 66th.
Minnesota shot a 571 for the two rounds to win the title. The Golden Gophers were followed by Temple (588), Seton Hall (596), Monmouth (603), Monmouth (606), La Salle (606), St. Francis (PA (607), Fairleigh Dickinson (615), Iona (618), Fordham (619), St. Peter's (620), LIU-Brooklyn (614), , Manhattan (637), St. Francis (NY) (644) and Wagner (654).
