INDIANAPOLIS – Temple University's student-athletes have recorded their highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in school history, following the national trend of all Division I student-athletes.
Â
Owl student-athletes, who entered college in 2006, earned their degrees at a rate of 81 percent, the school's highest to date.
Â
"We are so very proud of the success of our student-athletes in the classroom," said Interim Director of Athletics Kevin Clark. "We are equally proud of the academic support system in place that is led by Justin Miller and his talented staff at the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes. The combination of their hard-work and the buy-in from our coaches and administrators has made for a healthy academic environment for our student-athletes."
Â
Temple football enjoyed a success rate of 79, which is an increase of 13 points from last year, and which ranks the Owls third among the football programs in the American Athletic Conference. TU's 79 GSR is eight points greater than the NCAA average all Bowl Subdivision football teams.
Â
Four Owl sports earned perfect 100 GSR— men's gymnastics, men's tennis, women's tennis, and women's volleyball.
Â
Seven of TU's sports earned all-time high GSRs for their respective programs, while 15 teams increased (or had no change) in their GSR from last year.
Â
"The academic success and timely graduation of our student-athletes is a great point of pride for Temple University," Miller said. "The consistent collaboration between Temple Athletics Administration, coaches and staff of the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes continues to result in excellence in the classroom department-wide, as well as record numbers of students earning their degrees each semester. Â We are very proud of our student-athletes and look forward to their continued success." Â
