PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Eight-year head coach Aaron Murphy and the women's gymnastics team have announced their 2014 schedule. The Owls will start the season off with two intrasquad meets with one on December 6th at Penn and the other on January 4th.Â
"The 2013-14 season is looking to be a positive one for the team this year," Head coach Aaron Murphy said. "There's a great vibe going on in the gym that I haven't seen nor felt in a long time. My assistant coach Deirdre Bertotti and I have been talking about it for weeks now and can't really put our fingers on it, but we're happy with it staying this way."
They will compete in the George Washington Invite once again on Jan. 12th. The following week, the Owls will travel to a meet at Bridgeport that will also include Yale and Southern Connecticut. The Owls will have a week off before they travel all the way to Anchorage, Alaska for two meets on Jan. 24th and 26th.
The Owls will return home and compete in the only home regular season meet for the entire season in the Ken Anderson Memorial Invite. Penn, Ursinus, West Chester and Cornell will also be part of the event. The Owls will then travel to Penn on Feb. 8th for a meet that will also include Brockport and SUNY Cortland.
The team will once again go the Towson Invite on Feb. 15th after competing there last year. They travel to conference member Rutgers on Feb. 22nd for a meet with the Scarlet Knights, Ursinus and Penn State. Ursinus will host the Owls the following week on March 2nd.
Eastern Michigan will host the Owls along with Northern Illinois and Air Force on March 8th. The regular season will conclude on March 16th with a road meet against William and Mary.
Temple will host the ECAC Championships on March 22nd. The NCAA Regionals will be on April 5th.
"Our travel schedule has us battling conference rivals UPenn, Cornell and William & Mary, along with power houses such as Eastern Michigan, Rutgers and Penn State," Murphy said. "A challenge has been placed in front of us and the girls this year are ready to set-up to that challenge to see who we can out score not only in the regular season but more importantly at the ECAC Conference Championships held at Temple this coming March."
