Owls' Women's Tennis Competes at Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team was in action at the Lehigh Invitational, playing a combination of singles and doubles throughout the day on Saturday, October 5. The Owls took on Army's players in singles action before taking part in doubles matches against Lehigh and Loyola.
Against the Black Knights, the Cherry & White split six matches in singles play. Senior Yana Mavrina, sophomore Minami Okajima and freshman Anais Nussaume were each victorious at their flights. Mavrina came from behind to win a three-set decision at the first flight over Jamila Paul, 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. Nussaume defeated her opponents in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, while Okajima recorded an identical score over Della Taylor at the fourth flight.
In doubles play, the Owls were undefeated on the day. Mavrina and Nussaume teamed up at the first flight to defeat the Lehigh duo of Jenai Bilimoria and Abby Farrell, 8-5. The duo later defeated Tiffany Ash and Haleigh Morgus of Loyola, 8-7(5).
Okajima paired up with Rebecca Breland at the second flight, winning 8-3 against Cassidy Cruz and Alexandra Kaminetsky from Lehigh before defeating Loyola's duo of Katelyn Hissong and Ania Krawiec, 8-6.
The tandem of Alicia Doms and Carly Bohman did not drop a game in two doubles matches on the day. First up was the team of Taylor Hampshire and Nina Larraza of Lehigh, before the pair blanked Alexandra Billups and Meredith Dwyer of Loyola.
