Women's Cross Country Posts Two Top-20 Finishes at Paul Short Invite; Owls Place 19th

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Behind a 13th-place run from junior Jenna Dubrow and a 20th-place finish by senior Anna Pavone, the Temple women's cross country team placed 19th of 45 teams at Saturday's Paul Short Invitational. It is the highest-ever finish for the program at the meet, hosted by Lehigh University, and the Owls ran a total time of 1:58.29.
"The ladies executed the race plan to perfection," said assistant coach James Snyder. "We had a plan for one mile, two miles, and they did exactly that. I'm really pleased. Jenna and Anna put themselves up in the mix and they closed really well. That was encouraging. With the circumstances today, it was really hot out there, and they can run even 25-30 seconds faster than they did today."
Snyder was also encouraged with the performance of Gwen Porter, a sophomore academically who walked-on to the team as a freshman this season.
"She didn't run for the team last year, and she came on as a walk-on so we didn't have many expecations," he said. "She hit it out of the park in her first real race in two years. I'm very encouraged and very excited for her."
Dubrow's time of 22:10 for the 6k race is Temple's best time at the Paul Short meet, a record she had also broken in each of the last two seasons. She also finished 13th a year ago, with a time of 22:22.
Pavone was close behind her teammate, coming in at 22:21. Sophomore Janie Augustyn was the Owls' third-fastest finisher, coming in 116th with a time of 23:53. Porter ran a time of 24:22 to place 159th.
