PHILADELPHIA – After spending more than a year as a graduate extern in the Nancy & Donald Resnick Academic Support Center for Student-Athletes, Paris Williams has been hired full-time as a Learning Specialist, as announced by Director Justin Miller.
"It is with great pride that we announce Paris Williams joining our staff as a Learning Specialist," said Miller. "In this role, Paris will work closely with our LEAD (Learning Enhancement & Academic Development) Program that aims to undergird and facilitate long term student-athlete success. We are very excited to welcome Paris - a very proud member of the Temple family - back to North Broad Street."
In her role as a graduate extern, Williams collaborated with academic advisors, coaches, and professors to ensure student-athlete success. For her work, Williams was the recipient of the Graduate Extern Award. Among other responsibilities, she developed and implemented student Academic Achievement Plans, differentiated reading and writing assignments for accessibility for students with disabilities, and monitored student-athlete grades, assignment completion, and participation.
"The opportunity to come back to work with Temple student-athletes was one that I could not pass up," said Williams. "I am passionate about student-athlete success, so working with the committed staff of the Resnick Center is a perfect fit. I am proud to be an Owl and look forward to giving back to the program that contributed so much to my development."
Prior to her work in the Resnick Center, Williams was a four-year member of Temple's track and field team, graduating in 2011 with a degree in social work. Specializing in middle distance events, Williams was the top finisher in the 400m at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships, helping lead the Owls to their first ever A-10 Outdoor Championship. That same year, Williams was part of Temple's 4x400m relay team that competed in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Williams is currently working toward a master's degree in social work at Temple, and expects to complete the requirements for that degree in May, 2014.
