News & Notes Following Temple's 39-36 loss vs. UCF
Temple battled #15/19 UCF through 11 lead changes, including a 23-yard FG as time expired.
Temple played a ranked team for the third time this season - #14 Notre Dame and #7 Louisville.
In 6 of Temple's 9 losses, they have surrendered a lead to Fordham (29-23) with 0:04 left, and Rutgers (20-16) with 0:35 on the clock; had a 36-36 tie vs. UCF broken as time expired; lost to Idaho (26-24) by one score; and were within one score to Houston (15-13) with 1:06 remaining, and SMU (45-42) with 6:55 left.
For the third time in four games the Owls played the "Knights." After defeating Army's Black Knights 33-14 on 10/19, Temple has lost to Rutgers' Scarlet Knights and UCF's Knights, 23-20 and 39-36, respectively. Overall that gives the Owls an 89-76 advantage over the Knights.
Freshman QB P.J. Walker threw for a career high 382 yards, the third highest mark in school history surpassed only by Henry Burris 445 in 1996 (Pittsburgh) and 392 in 1994 (Syracuse). His 75-yard TD pass to WR Robby Anderson was the longest of the true freshman's season.
WR Robby Anderson had over 100-yards receiving in the first half for the second time this season. He finished with184 yards and 2 TDs on 8 catches. The 184 receiving yards are tied for fifth in the school record books. Anderson picked up 46 of those yards on a 3rd-and-25 conversion that led to the Owls second TD (3-yard run by Walker).
The Owls fourth scoring drive that made the game 28-22, was a 5-play, 99-yard scoring drive that ended in a 75-yard catch and run from Walker to Anderson. That play was the tenth longest pass play in school history but just the second longest of the season (earlier this year WR Jalen Fitzpatrick hit Anderson for an 83-yard TD).
Sophomore RB Jamie Gilmore (32-yard TD reception from Walker) and senior TE Chris Parthemore (7-yard TD from Walker) each scored his first career TD. They became the eleventh and twelfth player on offense, and twelfth and thirteenth overall, to reach the end zone for the Owls this season. It also was Gilmore's first career reception.
Junior RB Kenneth Harper who entered the 4th Q with just 3 rushes for 5 yards, finished the day with 10 carries for 77 yards. On the Owls final scoring drive he was 5-67 as TU went 8 plays and 80 yards to take a 36-29 lead.
Sophomore WLB Tyler Matakevich entered the game leading the nation in solo tackles and ranked second in total stops. He tied for tops in the game with 9 tackles, 6 solos.
The Owls collected three sacks all in the first half, including the first of their careers for freshman LB Jarad Alwan and sophomore DT Hershey Walton. Nate D. Smith had the other sack.
Redshirt freshman LB Hassan Reddick and sophomore DT Matt Ioannidis each started at DE, playing that position for the first time in their careers.
The Owls allowed a safety to UCF. It was the first safety against Temple since 9/8/12 vs. Maryland.
