2015 (Redshirt Senior): Moved to DE from LB this season to take advantage of his pass-rushing skills ... his 8.0 sacks were third-best in the conference ... collected five tackles (four solo) including two sacks for 12 yards of Christian Hackenberg against Penn State ... had 5.5 sacks in the first five games and was leading the conference ... started at defensive end and tallied three tackles (two solo) with a two-yard sack of preseason all-conference first team QB Gunner Kiel at Cincinnati ... part of senior class that defeated preseason conference favorite Cincinnati for the first time in four tries ... game captain at Cincinnati, against #9 Notre Dame, and at #19 Houston.

2013 (Redshirt Sophomore): Played in every game, starting 10 ... began the season as a MLB but was converted to DE due to injuries on the D-line ... started games 4-6 at DE ... switched back to MLB vs. Army and played well - notched a season-high 9 tackles and recovered a fumble he advanced 19 yards for a TD [earned honorable mention defensive POW (AAC) and LB of the week (CFPA)] ... tied for the team lead with 3.0 sacks ... finished third overall with 66 tackles ... his 4 pass breakups were second on the Owls.
2012 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in all 11 games with 10 starts at MLB … one of nine redshirt freshmen to see game action … also played on the kickoff and punt return units … finished the season second on defense with 75 tackles and a team-best three forced fumbles … in the Big East, finished third in forced fumbles (0.27), 13th in sacks (0.32), and 14th in tackles (6.8) … led the Owls with 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and two forced fumbles against Maryland … in collegiate debut, received first starting nod in the win over Villanova and led the Owls with seven solo tackles, a forced fumble, and a break-up.

High School: Four-year letterwinner for coach Rich McGlynn at Highland Park HS … four-time All-Division honoree … 2009 Player of the Year … three-time All-State, three-time All-GMC Conference and three-time All-Area honoree … 2009 first-team coaches’ All-Public League selection … team won four divisional championships and played in the 2009 state championship game … during his prep career, collected a school record 378 tackles, including 131 as a senior … rushed for more than 3,700 yards … as a senior, rushed for 2,442 yards and 32 TDs … as a junior, had 92 tackles, including 14 TFL … played in the North/South All-Star game … also a three-year letterwinner in basketball … lettered in track and field … attended the 2009 Temple Football Camp.
Personal: Born Nathaniel Duane Smith on 5/30/91 … mother, Kathy Smith, passed in spring of 2014 … siblings are John “L.J.” Smith and Alicia Smith … brother attended Rutgers and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round in 2003 where he played six seasons (2003-08) before finishing his career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 ... has a niece Zaniya Smith (7) … earned his degree in criminal justice.
