Fitzgerald Named American Freshman of the Week;

Williams Named  Big 5 Player of the Week

 
 
PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Temple freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) has been named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, while junior Tyonna Williams (Fort Washington, Md.) was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week.
 
Additionally, Williams was named to the American Honor Roll as well as the OwlSports.com Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with football's P.J. Walker.
 
A true freshman, point guard Fitzgerald posted double digits for the first time in her young collegiate career in the win at Delaware,. She finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists while playing all 40 minutes (in just her second collegiate game).
 
In Saturday's win 78-74 over Auburn, Fitzgerald posted a career-high with 18 points, including four treys. Her three-pointer with 24 seconds remaining in the game gave Temple its final lead and secured the Owls' win. Fitzgerald also added five assists, three rebounds, and a block in 38 minutes of work. 
 
A starter in all three games at point guard, Fitzgerald stands second in team scoring with 11.3 ppg and second in assists with 13.
 
Williams was one of five Owls in double figures in the 70-58 road win at Delaware. She finished with 10 points, including a perfect 2-for-2 from long range, and a game-high six assists.
 
In Saturday's 78-74 win over Auburn, Williams paced the Owls with a career-high 29 points, tying her career-high with five treys.  She nailed two free throws as time expired to seal the Owls' victory. Williams shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe and added four assists, two steals, and a block in the 38 minutes of action.
 
Williams is the team's top scorer with 16.7 ppg and leads in assists with 15. Williams is shooting 54 percent (14-26) from the field, including 60 percent (9-15) from three-point range.
 
The Temple Owls (3-0) have a 10-day break before hosting No. 21 Michigan State (2-1) on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. McGonigle Hall.  For season ticket information, call 215-204-8499.
