Temple Women's Rowing Runs the Philadelphia Marathon

PHILADELPHIA- On Saturday, November 16th, the women's rowing team participated in the Philadelphia Marathon on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Coaches Rebecca Grzybowski and Marianna Folco ran the 13.1 mile half marathon, while rowers Megan Boyer, Annie Buckley and Hope Watson participated in the full 26.2 mile course along with Graduate Assistant Taylor Wasserleben.
"Running in the Philadelphia Marathon was truly a life changing experience, " said rower Annie Buckley, "Accomplishing a lifelong goal with the support from not just my team, coaches, and family members, but also the 100,000 strangers all along the race course encouraging every participant left me with memories that will last forever.
Many of the Owls also participated as volunteers along the marathon course as well as at the finish line. The Owls enjoyed handing out medals and blankets as well as cheering on their fellow teammates. Former Marathon volunteer and 2013 marathon finisher Megan Boyer shares her thoughts on the experience.
"After volunteering at the finish line of last year's marathon, I knew that this was something I had to try, at least once." said Boyer, "Everyone just looked so happy as they crossed the line! I signed up in late-April so I've been prepping for the race for a while. Knowing that the rest of my team was volunteering in the finish area helped keep me going during the tough parts of the course. I couldn't wait to get to the finish and see all of my friends!"
The Philadelphia Marathon, sponsored by GORE-TEX, is in its 20th year as one of the top-10 marathons in the country. The Owls hope to make this an annual tradition.
