CHARLESTON, SC - After a day off from competition, the Temple men's basketball team (2-3) will look to even its overall record when it takes on the UAB Blazers (4-1) Sunday night (6:30 pm/ESPN3/1210 AM WPHT) in the fifth place game of the Charleston Classic presented by GILDAN.
• Temple will be facing UAB for just the fourth time, and first since a 55-52 win at McGonigle Hall on Dec. 4, 1993
• The Owls snapped their first three-game losing streak since Dec. 22-29, 2008 with their 83-81 win over Georgia Friday
• For the second straight game a TU player registered a career-scoring high of 22 points, this time it was Dalton Pepper who led the way against the Bulldogs.
• Will Cummings, who 22 points in the 72-58 first round loss to Clemson, hit the game-winning three-pointer with 7 seconds left to lift TU to its second win of the season.
• Quenton DeCosey and Cummings are the only two Temple players to score in double figures in all five games this season.
• UAB, off to a 4-1 start, dropped a 97-94 double-overtime thriller to #19/20 New Mexico in the first round. They rebounded with an easy 87-74 victory over Nebraska Friday.
• Blazer junior point guard Chad Frazier has had an impressive Charleston Classic. The team's scoring (20.4 ppg.) and assist (5.8 apg.) leader has scored 30-plus points in two-straight games -- the first Blazer to do so since 2008.
• Junior C.J. Washington (14.0 ppg,) and seniors Rod Rucker (13.2 ppg.), Fahro Alihodzic (11.2 ppg,) and Robert Williams (10.6 ppg.) also score in double figures for UAB, which averages 83.4 points per game.
