PHILADELPHIA - In its only match for this week, Temple volleyball will travel to Memphis (12-13, 4-7) for the first of five straight matches on the road. The contest is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST) on Friday, Nov. 8. The Owls (16-7, 7-4) are currently tied for fifth in the American Athletic Conference, with just one more loss than the teams in second, third and fourth.
Temple is coming off a 3-1 win over Cincinnati on Nov. 3. The Owls rebounded well from a loss to conference leader Louisville two days earlier, and will look to carry their momentum into this road swing. In Memphis, the Owls are facing a team they swept previously, 3-0 at home on Oct. 4.
Over a two-week period in October, Temple won five straight matches to make a statement in its new conference after being picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll.
With 3.42 kills/set (299 total), senior Gabriella Matautia leads the team and ranks fifth in the league. She is also among the team leaders in digs, ranking third with 2.73 digs/set (232 total).
Sophomore Sandra Sydlik and junior Jennifer Iacobini both rank in the top five among all players in the American in service aces. Both have 26 total aces, with Sydlik ranking second in aces/set at 0.36 and Iacobini ranking fifth at 0.33. Iacobini also ranks fifth in the league in hitting percentage at .296.
As a team, Temple ranks second in the American with 1.39 aces/set, third in opponent hitting percentage at .172 and fourth in digs at 15.49 digs/set.
