News & Notes Following Temple's 41-21 win at Memphis
Temple amassed 2,996 passing yards this season eclipsing the previous school record of 2,757 set in 1994.
Temple's offense averaged nearly 400 yards per game (4,788) and was surpassed only by the 1979 team that averaged 401 yards per game (4,815).
Temple finished with 42 TDs – the same exact number as its opponents. The offense was responsible for 40 of those scores and the defense surrendered 41.
QB P.J. Walker ended with 20 TD passes finishing just shy of Brian Broomell's school record of 22 set in 1979. He was the first freshman in school history to reach that milestone … Walker's 2,084 passing yards tied Henry Burris for 4th best single-season mark in school history … Walker finished the season with 7 straight starts, all of which he eclipsed the 200-yard passing plateau. As such, he is the only player in Temple history to string together 7 consecutive 200+ performances and only six players [Henry Burris (15), Mike McGann (13), Adam DiMichele (11), Tim Riordan (9), Lee Saltz (9), and Walter Washington (8)] have more in their career.
WR Robby Anderson finished with 791 receiving yards…the 5th best single season mark in TU history. His 9 TD receptions (all in the final 5 games, no less) are the 3rd best mark in school history. Only a sophomore, Anderson already ranks 10th on the Temple all-time list for TD receptions. Anderson, who missed nearly all of the first 3 games and didn't start until week 6, had the following totals over the final five games of the season: 34 receptions, 657 yards and 9 TDs.
Sophomore LB Tyler Matakevich totaled 137 tackles – the 7th best total in Temple record books.
Senior WR Ryan Alderman completed his Temple career having played in every game in his four seasons, a total of 48 contests.
Senior TE Chris Coyer caught 3 passes for 129 yards and a TD. His TD came in the 3rd Q after Memphis cut the lead to 17-14. After a touchback placed the ball on the 25-yardline, Walker connected with Coyer on a play that covered 75 yards. That pass play is tied for the 10th longest in TU history and Coyer (with a 74-yard TD run vs. Ball State in 2011) now stands alone as the only player in school history with one of the 10 longest plays by ground and by air.
Sophomore RB Jamie Gilmore took advantage of extended action and doubled his season output with 16-92 rushing giving him a total of 34-179 for the season. He gained 62 yards on four straight carries setting the Owls up for their opening score.
Sophomore LB Michael Felton didn't show up in the stat sheet except for the scoring summary. He landed on a blocked punt in the endzone for his first career TD. Freshman LB Sharif Finch blocked Tom Hornsey's punt in the 3rd Q and Felton gave the Owls a 31-14 lead.
Kicker Nick Visco was 5-5 on PATs and 2-2 on FGs (the second and third FG of the season for the Owls). The 11 point performance was the best by an Owls kicker this season.
