Women's Basketball Hosts Villanova in Big 5 Action on Sunday

Temple closes out its 2013 home schedule with a Philadelphia Big 5 contest with Villanova on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at McGonigle Hall. ?Santa Claus will be in attendance and will be available for photos when doors open at 1 p.m.
SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls, under sixth-year head coach Tonya Cardoza, stand 6-3 on the season after an 83-58 win over Howard on Thursday night.
After nine games, four Owl starters are averaging double-figure scoring. Freshman Feyonda Fitzgerald (Norfolk, Va.) is the Owls' leading scorer with 15.4 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Senior Natasha Thames (Port Huron, Mich.) follows with 13.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Senior Shi-Heria Shipp (Salisbury, N.C.) adds 11.6 ppg and a team-best 7.9 rpg. Junior Tyonna Williams (Fort Washington, Md.) also adds 10.2 points and 5.0 apg.

The Wildcats, under the guidance of 36th-year head coach Harry Perretta, stand 8-1 on the season after an 83-47 win at La Salle in Philadelphia Big 5 action on Dec. 15. Villanova had a seven-day break before visiting Temple.
Senior guard Devon Kane is the Wildcats' top scorer with 11.8 ppg and 2.7 rpg. Junior forward Emily Leer, the Big 5 Player of the Week, follows with 11.2 ppg and 3.0 rpg, while junior forward Lauren Burford adds 10.8 ppg and 3.8 rpg.
SERIES VS. WILDCATS
Sunday's meeting between Temple and Villanova is the 40th game between the schools since the series began in 1975. Villanova holds a 27-12 series edge.
Last season at Villanova, the Wildcats claimed a 55-44 win. Cutting a 15-point deficit down to four points, the Owls could not come any closer. Senior Victoria Macaulay led the Owls with a game-high 17 points.
