PHILADELPHIA – In a match where nearly every bout was closely contested, the Temple women's tennis team came out on the losing side of a 4-2 decision to visiting Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon. The match took place at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center.
The Hoyas opened the match with a win at third doubles, but Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms pulled out a 9-8(7) tiebreaker win over Kelly Comolli and Victoria Sekely at number one to bring the doubles point down to the second flight. It took another tiebreaker, and extra points at that, but Madeline Jaeger and Sophie Panarese ultimately defeated TU's Rebecca Breland and Yana Mavrina, 9-8(10) to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Sekely made it 2-0 with a win at first singles before Temple rattled off two-straight wins to knot the score. Batey took a straight set 6-0, 6-1 decision against Taylor Perz at number five, before Breland came out on top of a 7-5, 6-1 decision at the third flight against Jaeger.
Panarese put Georgetown back on top, 3-2, with her win at number four. It came down to the second and sixth flights to determine the winner. Both went to tiebreakers, and Doms was leading Comolli in the third set at number two, but Liz Hamlin finished off Minami Okajima at the sixth flight, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(2), before the Doms and Comolli could finish their match, and the Hoyas took the 4-2 victory.
