Tennis Teams Volunteer at Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission

2.4.13 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's and women's tennis teams continue to get involved with the community, recently spending two different Saturday evening's serving meals at the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission in Philadelphia. The men's team volunteered its services on January 26, while the women helped at the Mission on February 2.

The Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission has been in operation since 1878. The founders of the Sunday Breakfast Association had a simple goal: to provide a breakfast every Sunday for the poor and to bring them under Christian influence. Well known businessmen John Wanamaker (Wanamaker's Department Store), John B. Stetson (Stetson Hat Co.), W. Atlee Burpee (Burpee Seed Co.), and former governor James Pollock served as the original trustees.

Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission provides many services that meet the basic needs of the Philadelphia area's homeless population, including three meals, every day of the year. Other services offered include emergency shelter, clothing exchange, chapel, and recovery programs for both men and women.
