Women's T&F Closes Out Indoor Regular Season With Successful Day At The Armory

NEW YORK, N.Y.—With just one week before the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, Temple Women's Track & Field got one last tune-up in, as it traveled to the 168th Street Armory for the third time this season. This time around, it competed in the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games Invitational.
Sophomore Kaitlyn McSurdy set a personal best in both the 400m dash and the 60m hurdles. McSurdy ran a time of 1:01.22 in the 400m dash, placing 18th. In the 60 meter hurdles, she place 15th with her time of 10.02, which was behind fellow sophomore Shanae Bailey, who completed the 60 meter hurdle in a solid finished ninth running a time of 9.50.
Junior Gennie Depass came out of the 400m race with a personal best time of (59.05), just as sophomore Andrea Mathis did in the 1000m race with her time of 3:15.99 for fifth place, which beat out junior Stephanie Dornates in sixth (3:16.33).
The 60m race saw close finishes by the Owls. Freshman Demisha Davis placed fourth (7.93) to edge out fellow Owl, senior Crystal Herculues who placed fifth (7.94) in their heat. Freshman Courtney Mitchell placed 12th (8.10) and senior Dia Dorsey finished just behind Mitchell in 14th place (8.12).
The Owls were heavily represented in the 200m race and saw Davis place fourth overall (25.20).
In the 4x400m relay, Dorantes, McDurdy, Mathis, and freshman Janie Augustyn combined for an 11th place finish (4:26.66).
In the field events, freshman Rachel Szeto finished the pole vault in eighth place (2.85m), while senior Jennifer Abercrumbie posted her personal best mark in the shot put with her throw of 11.98m. Freshman Alexis Kennedy placed fourth with a throw of 11.57m.
Competing in the triple jump, freshman Jamila Janneh placed second (11.05m) and junior Saudiah Lawrence ranked fourth (10.88m).
Temple will now prepare for its marquee meet of the season, as it will travel to Kingston, R.I. next weekend to compete for the A-10 Indoor title.
