HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Despite a 3-1 run in the final 14 minutes, Temple lacrosse fell short in its comeback attempt and lost 8-5 at Hofstra (6-3) on Thursday afternoon. Rachel Schwaab, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, led the Owls (5-3) with two goals.
Temple finished the game with 23 shots to the Pride's 20 including six free-position shots to Hofstra's zero, but the Owls were unable to take advantage of a single one of those. They trailed 6-2 heading into halftime, but got things going later in the second half. Temple scored three goals in a row in the final 13:40, but could come within no fewer than two goals.
Charlotte Swavola and Schwaab each scored in the first 11 minutes as the teams traded goals for a 2-2 tie, but Hofstra scored four unanswered goals to close out the half and then added another early in the second half for a 5-0 run.
Jaymie Tabor fed Stephany Parcell just past the midway point of the second half to finally get Temple back on the board. Four minutes later, Kelly Syphard cut the margin to three, and with 2:22 left, Schwaab scored her second goal of the contest to make it 7-5. That would be the final goal for Temple, while the Pride added one more in the remaining time.
The Owls have two games left in a six-game road swing. Next up is a 5:00 p.m. game at Delaware on Wednesday, March 27.
