Owls Split a Pair with La Salle in Softball

PHILADELPHIA – Opening up Atlantic 10 play with a pair of games at La Salle, the Temple softball team earned a split with the Explorers on Saturday, March 23. La Salle took the opener 5-0, before TU rebounded with a decisive 11-1 decision in the nightcap.
In the opener, Jessica Mahoney (0-8) was roughed up for eight hits and five runs in 3.1 innings of work. She gave up just two hits through the first three innings before the Explorers got to her in the fourth. La Salle pounded out six hits in the frame, including a grand slam off the bat of Casey Lester, and scored all five of its runs.
The Owls offense, on the other hand, was stifled by Alicia Aughton on the mound. Aughton went the complete game, allowing just five hits and striking out seven in the shutout victory.
The Temple bats came alive in the nightcap, though. The Owls scored 11 runs on nine hits and one La Salle error. Ali Robinson was the star, going 3-for-5 with two homeruns and five RBI. Annie Marcopolous also recorded multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in.
Kelsey Dominik (4-1) was solid on the mound, allowing just two hits in 5.0 innings of work.
The Owls (7-14) host St. Francis (Pa.) in a doubleheader beginning at noon tomorrow.
