Nelons Hits Second Homer In As Many Games to Lead Temple to 4-2 Win Over Charlotte

AMBLER, Pa. - Junior Stephanie Pasquale went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and classmate Devynne Nelons hit a two-run homerun to lead the Temple softball team to a 4-2 win over Charlotte on Friday, March 29. The victory gave the Owls (11-14, 3-1 A-10) the series sweep over the 49ers (14-12, 2-2 A10).
The Owls got on the board in the bottom of the first on Pasquale's RBI single up the middle for a 1-0 lead. The hit extended her hit-streak to nine games.
Nelons added to that in the second inning with her second homerun in as many games when she sent a 3-1 pitch over the left centerfield fence to drive in herself and Kelsey Dominik, who had walked to lead off the inning. The 3-0 lead would last until the top of the fifth.
In Charlotte's half of the fifth, Chelsea Ingersoll continued her hot streak with her third homer in two games. The roundtripper came with two outs and scored two as Alex Rogers had singled earlier in the inning.
TU added one more in the bottom of the fifth when Kayla Cook drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Pasquale, who had singled earlier in the frame.
Charlotte got one runner on in the top of the seventh, but Brooklin White got out of it with two ground outs and a fly ball to end the game.
White (3-5) went the distance, allowing eight hits, two runs, striking out four and walking two. Lisakatos (5-3) lasted 4.1 innings, giving up four hits, four runs, fanning three and walking seven.
Natalie Capone and Samantha Slade collected multiple hits for Charlotte, going 2-for-3 and 2-for-4, respectively.
The Owls remain home to host Lafayette for a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
