ELKINS PARK, Pa. – The Temple men's tennis team picked up a non-conference win over Morgan State, 6-1, on Sunday, March 31, 2013. The match was played at Fossler's Cheltenham Tennis in Elkins Park, Pa.
The Bears started the match with a win at first doubles, but TU responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to claim the point. Kristian Marquart and Sam Rundle won 8-5 at the second flight, while Nicolas Paulus and Santiago Canete took an 8-6 decision at the third flight.
In singles play, it was Temple's second through sixth flights that captured points. Morgan State's only point was won at No. 1 in a hard-fought battle that ended with a 7-6(6), 7-5 score in favor of Duk Young-Park over Hernan Vasconez.
“Today was a good win for us,” said head coach Steve Mauro. “That's two wins in a row over two quality teams and I think we're on the right track. I hope we can keep the momentum going against La Salle this week.”
The Owls are 4-9 overall and are in action next with a 3:30 p.m. match at La Salle on April 4.
