George Washington Tops Women's Tennis, 5-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Temple women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match at George Washington on Saturday, March 30, 2013, falling to 5-11 overall and 2-5 against Atlantic 10 opponents. The Colonials improve to 9-5, 3-1 A-10.
The doubles point came down to the second flight, as the teams split the first and third flights. Rebecca Breland and Yana Mavrina won a tough 9-7 battle at No. 3 to bring it down to the second. Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms put up a fight, but ultimately fell 8-6 at the second flight to give GW the point.
In singles play, the Colonials quickly made it a 3-0 match with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Breland got the Owls on the board with her three-set win (1-6, 6-1, 6-0) at the fifth flight, but Mimi Hamling followed with a win at No. 4 to secure the match in George Washington's favor.
Batey was the other singles winner for Temple, defeating Stephanie Wei, 6-3, 7-5, at the third flight.
TU remains on the road with a 12:30 p.m. match at Massachusetts on Saturday, April 6.
