MALVERN, PA -- Freshman Brandon Matthews carded a two-over par on the 36-hole first day of play at the Wildcat Invitational to tie for fourth place overall. Matthews play helped the Owls (604) to sixth place among the 13-team field, just nine strokes behind first place Rhode Island (595). Play concludes Tuesday at the par 72 White Manor Country Club.
Matthews carded a three-under 69 over the first round while posting a five-over 77 in the afternoon round. Devin Bibeau carded a 151 (75-76) to tie for 16th place while Paul Carbone was right behind, tied for 27th with a 155 (76-79). Matthew Crescenzo (76-81, 157) and Matthew Teesdale (84-76, 160) rounded out the Owls, placing 38th and 52nd, respectively.
Host Villanova and Delaware are tied for second place, five strokes behind URI with a 600. They are followed by Georgetown (602), Youngstown State (603), Temple, Drexel ((614), Fordham (617), Army (624), Bucknell (625), La Salle (633), Saint Joseph's (635) and Villanova B (636).
