Women's Tennis Defeats Saint Joseph's, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's tennis team won its third-straight match on Thursday afternoon, defeating visiting Saint Joseph's, 5-2, at TU Pavilion. The Owls improve to 8-12, while the Hawks drop to 10-10.
TU earned the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the early 1-0 lead. After dropping the first flight match, Rebecca Breland and Yana Mavrina won 8-4 at No. 2. Carly Bohman and Minami Okajima wrapped up the point with an 8-6 victory at the third flight.
The Hawks came into singles play and won at the second flight to even the score at 1-1, but the Cherry & White responded with five-straight wins, including a come-from-behind three-set victory by Breland at No. 4 (2-6, 6-4, 6-2). Saint Joseph's only other win was a three-set match at No. 6.
“The girls played very strong in singles competition today,” said head coach Steve Mauro. “I was very impressed at how they came out. This was a great win over a very much improved Saint Joseph's team.”
Temple closes out the regular season with a pair of matches at TU Pavilion this weekend, beginning with a 1 p.m. match against Syracuse. The Owls will then host Binghamton at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
