4.13.13 | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA – Jordan Batey and Rebecca Breland picked up wins in singles play for the Temple women's tennis team, but those were the only points the squad would get in a 5-2 defeat from Syracuse on Saturday afternoon. The Owls falls to 8-13, while Syracuse improves to 12-8.
The Orange claimed the doubles point with wins at the first and second flights. The visitors were going for a clean sweep, up 7-5 in the third, but the bout was not finished.
TU quickly took a 2-1 lead with their wins in singles play. Batey defeated Komal Safdar, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 and Breland followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Jimena Wu at the fourth flight. But it was all Syracuse from there as the Orange closed out the match winning the final four flights. Yana Mavrina nearly got Temple another point, falling in three sets at No. 2 (6-2, 4-6, 6-1).
The Cherry & White close out the regular season with a match against Binghamton at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at TU Pavilion.
