Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season with 6-1 Win Over Binghamton

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's tennis team ended the regular season on a strong note, defeating Binghamton 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at TU Pavilion. The Owls head into the Atlantic 10 Championship next week with a 9-13 overall record, winning four of their last five matches.
TU earned the doubles point with dominating wins at the first and second flights. Rebecca Breland and Yana Mavrina paired up at No. 1 to defeat their opponents 8-2. Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms followed suit with an 8-3 victory at No. 2. Carly Bohman and Minami Okajima were ahead 6-2 when the doubles point was secured, and did not finish.
The Owls earned three quick points in singles play to wrap up the win as Maame Amam Osei (No. 4), Doms (No. 1) and Mavrina (No. 2) each picked up victories, in that order. Also winning in singles were Okajima and Bohman.
“It was great to finish the season with a win,” said head coach Steve Mauro. “The girls played great doubles matches today, and also came out and played hard in singles. We are really playing well right now and I am very optimistic about our chances at the upcoming A-10 tournament.”
Temple (9-13) heads to the A-10 Championship next weekend to challenge for the title in its final year in the conference. The event will begin on Thursday, April 18, in Charlottesville, Va.
