Owls Take Gold in Novice 8+ Race at Occoquan Sprints

Fairfax, Va.-The Temple Women's Rowing team traveled to Fairfax, Va. this afternoon to participate in the Occoquan Sprints. The Owls fared well, entering three boats into the final rounds and earning a 1st place finish in the Novice 8+ finals.
Julia Wolanski (coxswain) led the Novice 8+ to a 1st place in the Novice 8+ Petite Finals with a time of 6:15.80. The boat was comprised of Stephanie Barber (seat-8), Kathy Bostion (seat-7), Grace Kroner (seat-6), Emily Leyland (seat-5), Elizabeth Clark (seat-4), Amanda Benton (seat-3), Eileen Smith (seat-2) and Christina Orse (bow). The Owls finished ahead of La Salle University Crew, which placed 2nd at 6:26.60, and The University of Delaware, who finished 3rd with a time of 6:30.67.
The Owls Varsity 8+ A boat, led by Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Finished 3rd in final heat with a 5:57.59 time. The boat was comprised of Paige O' Sullivan (seat-8), Claudia Loeber (seat-7), Joanna Sutor (seat-6), Jeanine Lees (seat-5), Moira Meeks (seat-4), Jackie Lees (seat-3), Brittany Adell (seat 2) and Emily Opperman (bow). Navy Womens Crew went on to win the race, finishing with a time of 5:59.90 and Bucknell University was a close second with a time of 5:54.60.
The Junior Varsity 8+ B boat rounded out the day finishing 5th in their final heat. The Owls boat was comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Victoria Joye (seat-8), Kara Carson (seat-7), Allison Watkins (seat-6), Callista DiGuardia (Seat-5), Megan Boyer (seat-4), Lauren Kidd (seat-3), Annie Buckley (seat-2) and Angela Flinn (bow). Temple finished with a time of 5:58.92, two seconds ahead of Bucknell University.
The Owls return to action April 13th-14th in Camden, N.J. at the Knecht Cup.
