PHILADELPHIA— Nearly 70 team members of TUFF® [Temple University Football Family] participated in the 2013 Komen Philadelphia Race for the Cure on Sunday morning.
The racers, which participated in either a 5K Run, 5K Walk, or 1-mile Fun Walk, raised close to $7,000 for their inaugural event.
Participating in the One-Mile Fun Walk were team TUFF® captain senior OL Evan Regas, senior WR Ryan Alderman, senior OL Cody Booth, senior OL Sean Boyle, senior NT Levi Brown, sophomore DL Brandon Chudnoff, senior QB Chris Coyer, senior DL Sean Daniels, senior Matt Falcone, sophomore DB Will Hayes, sophomore OL Eric Lofton, junior OL Adam Metz, junior TE Wanemi Omuso, junior QB Connor Reilly, and senior OL Scott Roorda.
Thirty other members of the football team worked the race (for the seventh consecutive year), assisting with set-up and event management.
Action began at 6 a.m. on campus at Edberg-Olson Hall with a healthy breakfast, yoga stretching, and bus transportation to/from center city.
Team TUFF®, captained by Julie Rhule, Matt Rhule, Evan Regas, and Cathy Bongiovi, is a Temple University community service initiative open to students, faculty, staff, and all members of the Temple family. The Komen race was just the first event of the 2013 season.
“I am extremely pleased with the overwhelming support of the Temple community for our team and its fundraising efforts," Bongiovi said. "We look forward to future events around campus and around the city. Go Owls!”
