PHILADELPHIA - A total of 105 Temple University student-athletes will graduate this year with the Class of 2013. Sixty-seven of those are May graduates, while 16 completed their degree requirements in January of this year and another 22 will do so in August. All 105 were eligible to participate in Thursday's 126th annual Commencement ceremonies at the Liacouras Center. The Commencement exercises celebrated the achievements of the largest graduating class in Temple history with more than 9,000 graduates.

Among those participating were men's basketball's Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson (Chester, Pa.), an All-Big 5 honoree; field hockey's Katie Briglia (Phoenixville, Pa.), a three-time first-team All-Atlantic 10 honoree and the 2013 PNC Female Student-Athlete of the Year; women's track and field's Jennifer Abercrumbie (Alsip, Ill.), president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a two-time Enterprise Spirit and Sportsmanship Award recipient; football's Brandon McManus (Hatfield, Pa.), an AFCA Good Works Team member; and fencing's Mikayla Varadi (Beaverton, Ore.), a four-time qualifier for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional.

“I want to congratulate all of our outstanding student-athletes on the greatest success of their college careers-- earning a diploma from Temple University,” said Interim Director of Athletics Kevin Clark. “We take great pride in graduating our student-athletes, and it truly is a team effort. It starts with our coaches instilling the importance of success in the classroom, to our academic support staff providing the tools needed to succeed.  Today's commencement is the byproduct of our commitment to academic excellence.”

The 105 student-athletes represented all 24 of Temple's intercollegiate sports. Football had the most graduates with 21, followed by men's gymnastics and women's lacrosse with nine apiece. Baseball, men's crew, women's crew, women's soccer, and women's track & field had seven graduates each.  The numbers include both winter and summer 2013 graduates.

In celebration of the accomplishments of the graduating seniors, Temple Athletics hosted a reception on Wednesday evening prior to graduation exercises for the student-athletes and their families. The Department presented each graduate with a special Student-Athlete sash that was worn during the ceremonies.
