Abercrumbie Awarded NCAA Ethnic Minority Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship

PHILADELPHIA – Jennifer Abercrumbie, a graduate of the Class of 2013 and a four-year member of the Temple track and field team, has been awarded an NCAA Ethnic Minority Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics.
As a recipient of the scholarship, Abercrumbie, who earned her Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, is required to enroll in a sports-related program as a full-time graduate student at any college or university of her choice. To fulfill that, Abercrumbie has chosen to pursue a Master's degree in Sport in Education at the University of California, Berkley.
In addition, Abercrumbie is expected to attend the 2013 NCAA Career in Sports Forum, being held June 8-11 in Indianapolis, Ind. At the forum, Abercrumbie will spend four days exploring and being educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics, including foundational ills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning n budgeting.
“I'm excited to be attending UC-Berkeley in the fall and earning my Masters with the help of funding from the NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Program,” Abercrumbie said. “I had offers from an amazing group of graduate schools [USC and Harvard] but after talking to Director of the Athletic Study Center Derek Van Rheenen and my program director, I knew attending Cal would be the right choice for me. This scholarship will put me one step closer to becoming an Athletic Director for Student Services or Director of Athletics and will help me to ensure that student-athletes are growing and developing as scholars, athletes, aspiring professionals and citizens.”
