PHILADELPHIA - Temple University freshman golfer Brandon Matthews has been named to the NCAA Division I PING all-Northeast Region team.  The 25-member team was selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Matthews, a native of DuPont, Pa. (Pittston Area), recorded the lowest stroke average (72.27) among all Atlantic 10 Conference golfers this season.  He placed second at the A10 Championship to earn All-Conference honors as well as A10 Rookie of the Year.  His seven-under par 209 at the A10 Championship tied him for the program's best 54-hole score and his second place finish was the highest by an Owl since 2002.

The Temple golfer won three tournaments and placed in the Top 10 in eight of 12 events during the 2012-13 season. He recorded seven rounds in the 60s, including a 64 at The McLaughlin to mark the lowest round by an Owl in 39 years. He was also named A10 Rookie of the Week a record eight times during the season.
