Owls Place 5th Overall in Atlantic 10 Championship

Camden, N.J.- Temple Women's Rowing competed at the Atlantic 10 Conference Rowing Championships Saturday on the Cooper River. The Owls entered five boats and placed 5th overall in the Atlantic 10 Conference overall standings.

“It was a great day for Temple Women's Rowing" said Head Coach Rebecca Gryzbowski, "We had a really solid team performance and I'm especially proud of how everyone supported each other and represented Temple. Now we get to continue building momentum to Dad Vail Regatta next weekend."

The Owls Novice 8 boat, comprised of Julia Wolanski (coxswain), Stephanie Barber (seat-8), Kathy Bostion (seat-7), Grace Kroner (seat-6), Emily Leyland (seat-5), Elizabeth Clark (seat-4), Amanda Benton (seat-3), Emily Hedrick (seat-2) and Christina Orse (bow), placed second in the grand final with a time of 7:55.66. Duquesne won the race with a time of 7:52.

Temple succeeded in the preliminary round and placed boats in the Grand Final Varsity 4 A and B races.The Owls A boat earned a silver medal with a strong finish, posting a time of 8:33.76. The Owls boat was comprised of Erin Matz (coxswain), Blair Bradley (seat-4), Lauren Kidd (seat-3), Lily Papaleo (seat-2) and Susan O'Neil Coyne (bow).  In the Grand Final B, the Owls boat, comprised of Katie Cardwell (coxswain), Gina Inverso (seat-4), Kelly Hill (seat-3), Mary Kathleen Logue (seat-2) and Eileen Smith (bow), placed fifth in the race with a time of 9.14.21.

The Owls' Varsity 8, comprised of Kelsey Franks (coxswain), Paige O' Sullivan (seat-8), Claudia Loeber (seat-7), Joanna Sutor (seat-6), Jeanine Lees (seat-5), Moira Meeks (seat-4), Jackie Lees (seat-3), Brittany Adell (seat-2) and Emily Opperman (bow), failed to qualify for the grand final, but salvaged the day by winning  the petite final with a time of 7:17.59.  The Owls' Second Varsity 8, comprised of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Victoria Joye (seat-8), Angela Flinn (seat-7), Megan Boyer (seat-6), Sarah Barber (seat-5), Allison Watkins (seat- 4), Callista DiGuardia (seat-3), Annie Buckley (seat-2) and Kara Carson (bow), placed third  to earn bronze medals with a time of 7:29.30.

" It was a great weekend to show the depth of our team." noted varsity 8+ leader Paige O' Sullivan, " I am extremely proud of everyone and it shows how strong our program is becoming. Unfortunately, my boat did not do as well as we wanted but it will only fuel our fire for the Dad Vail [regatta]."
