Women Sit In 8th Place After Day 1; Continue A-10's on Sunday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After the opening day of the 2013 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Temple's men's side is in eighth place with 14 points. Sophomore Kiersten LaRoche is in the lead of the heptathlon. The reigning A-10 champ in the event has 2,953 points through the championship on Saturday at Irwin Belck Track & Field Center.

Senior Jade Wilson was the standout for the Owls in the opening day of competition, as she placed first on the preliminary running of the 100 meter hurdles to advance to the finals on Sunday. Wilson later went on and placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with her time of 1:00.10. Seven other athletes earned points in final field events for the Owls on Saturday, while sophomore Margo Britton earned eighth points for the Owls. Britton claimed second place in the discus throw with a mark of 43.75 to earn second place in the event.

Tessa West joined Wilson in the 200 meter dash with a time of 1:01.23 to place fifth.

Senior Isatta Kenneh took third in the 100 meter dash (11.89) before claiming a seventh place time of 24.06 in the 200 meter dash prelims.

Freshman Jamila Janneh finished just short of the high jump final with a mark of 1.61 meters, while Demishia Davis finished ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.85.
 
Temple will continue competition for the A-10 title Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m.
