Brandon Matthews Ties for Second at PA Amateur Championship

UPPER SAUCON, PA - Temple University sophomore Brandon Matthews tied for second with a two-over par 215 at the Pennsylvania Golf Association 100th Amateur Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club. Matthews, who carded a one-over 72 on the final day Wednesday, finished two shots back of Christopher Ault, who carded a four-under on the final day for an even par 213 for the Championship.
The DuPont, Pa. native, who has already qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship Aug. 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., has posted wins this summer at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier and the Philadelphia Golf Association Open Championship, where he captured the 36-hole event in a four-hole playoff. He also served as an alternate at the U.S. Open Championship held at Merion Golf Club, after shooting a four-under-par 67 in the final round of a sectional qualifier. He had qualified for the Sectional by sinking a birdie putt on the 18th for a round of 76 to place himself in a three-way tie for low score of the day in a local qualifier at the Country Club of SC in Clark Summit, Pa.
During his 2012-13 rookie season at Temple, Matthews had placed second in the 2013 A-10 Championship to earn All-Conference honors and winning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year. He also won three tournaments and was named to the PING All-Northeast Region team.
