PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's tennis players Maros Januvka, Kristian Marquart, Kacper Rams, Sam Rundle and Hernan Vasconez have been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as 2013 Division I Men's Scholar-Athletes.

In addition, the entire men's team earned the status of ITA All-Academic Team, while women's players Carly Bohman, Alicia Doms and Jasmine Merali were named to the women's Division I scholar-athlete squad.

In order to be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2012 and spring 2013).

As a team, the men posted a 3.59 GPA for 2012-13, aided by the five players with averages over 3.5. Marquart, a rising junior from Munich, Germany, posted a perfect 4.0 for the school year in his international business major.

Bohman, a rising senior from Oakville, Ontario, majoring in advertising, anchored the women's squad with a 3.98 on the year that included a perfect 4.0 during the fall semester.

Both the men's and women's teams get the 2013 fall seasons underway in the coming weeks. The men open play at the Navy Invitational on September 6-8, while the women get underway at the Cissie Leary Invite on September 20-22.
