PHILADELPHIA - Riding a five-match win streak, Temple volleyball heads across town to University City this weekend for the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia West Penn Invitational at the Palestra. The Owls (5-1) will face Weber State (3-6) on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 6:00 p.m., followed by Sunday matches against La Salle (1-8) at 10:00 a.m. and host Penn (1-3) at 2:00 p.m.

The Owls earned a come-from-behind, 3-2 win at NJIT on Wednesday, which was their fifth win in a row after falling to Buffalo in the season opener. Last weekend, Temple won the George Mason Patriot Invitational with 3-1 wins over all three opponents- Radford, Coppin State and George Mason.

Temple will see its first home action next weekend, Sept. 20-21 when the Owls host the annual Temple Invitational at McGonigle Hall. Fans will get their first look at the brand-new floor in McGonigle as they watch Temple take on Delaware State, Brown and Hofstra over the two-day tournament.

Leading the Owls offensively is senior Gabriella Matautia, the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. She is averaging 3.92 kills per set, while senior Emily Carlin is close behind at 3.74 kills per set. Five players are averaging more than two digs per set, including Matautia, Carlin and sophomore libero Alyssa Drachslin who leads the team at 3.52 digs/set.
