Men's Golf Opens Season at The Doc Glimmer

FARMINGDALE, NY - #ItBegins for the Temple University men's golf team as the Owls take part on The Doc Gimmler (formerly The McLaughlin). The two-day event, hosted by St. John's and held at Bethpage CC Red Course, opens Saturday, September 14.
Temple, under the direction of sixth-year head coach Brian Quinn, returns his entire squad with the exception of Devin Bibeau from last year's team that placed third in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Bibeau will serve this season as an assistant coach.
Sophomore Brandon Matthews will lead the Owls. A first team all-conference and A-10 Rookie of the Year selection, the DuPont, PA native will look to continue his hot play. Matthews, who won three tournaments as a freshman, had a sizzling summer where he was an alternate at the U.S. Open while also reaching the quarterfinals of the U.s. Amateur.
He also won the Patterson Cup, besting two of his teammates, junior Matt Teesdale (2nd) and senior Matthew Crescenzo (t-4th), to take the trophy for the second straight season.
In all, 15 teams will be competing at The Doc Glimmer, with 36 holes being played on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. The Owls will be looking to fare better than last season's 10th place showing.
