Women's Soccer Falls to Delaware 2-1

AMBLER, Pa. – Temple women's soccer dropped a home decision to Delaware 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex.

The first half was scoreless as both teams played each other tight. Both teams didn't allow many chances to score, as Temple only had three shots with one on goal. Delaware had a few chances at the end of the half, and finished the half with seven shots with two on goal.

The game opened up in the second half. Delaware took a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the second half. Shannon Kearney scored off of a pass by Natalie Zelenky.

The Blue Hens added another goal in the 61st minute. Dianna Marinaro scored on an unassisted goal in what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Owls didn't waver after being down 2-0 and letting the Blue Hens control the second half. They cut the Blue Hen's lead in half when Ingrid Mello scored her third goal of the season. The ball was kicked around in the Blue Hen's box, and Kelly Farrell nudged it over to Mello.

The Owls couldn't tie it up after that goal. They had a couple of good chances but couldn't convert. The best chance came with 16 minutes left.

After a foul, Kaylee Harner kicked the ball near the Blue Hen's goal. The goalie collided with another player, and Temple kicked the ball in for what appeared to be the tying goal. The goal was waved off as a foul had been called on Temple.

Goalie Shauni Kerkhoff got the loss for the Owls. She had six saves in the game.

This game marked the end of the non-conference season for the Owls, finishing with a 5-3-1 record with a majority of the games on the road. Temple plays its very first American Athletic Conference game on Thursday Sept. 26th at 4:00 pm. The Cougars are 1-2-3 this season.
