9.22.13 | Women's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – Two of Temple's women's tennis players were still in action on Sunday, September 22, at the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by Penn. Seniors Carly Bohman and Yana Mavrina closed out the tournament with matches in consolation singles.

Bohman was active in the consolation-consolation round, taking on Delaware's Abby Martinez. The Blue Hen got the most of Bohman, winning the semifinal round match 6-4, 7-6 (1).

Mavrina was vying for the title in the Flight A consolation bracket. Her opponent, Marie Bedard of Penn State, took the first set 6-4, but Mavrina rebounded with a 6-3 second set victory. The match went down to a super tiebreaker and Mavrina came out on the short end, falling 10-5.

Four Owls played in bonus matches on Sunday that were not part of the tournament. Rebecca Breland defeated Cornell's Kyla Kutnick, 6-0, 6-3. Alicia Doms took on Kutnick's teammate, Sara Perelman, dropping just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win. Also battling a player from Cornell was Anais Nussaume, a 7-5, 6-0, winner over Lauren Frazier. Minami Okajima faced Akron's Caroline Harpaintner, defeated the Zip 6-3, 6-3.

TU will be back in action next weekend at the SJU Invite, hosted by Saint Joseph's on Friday-Sunday, September 27-29.
