Women's Tennis Set to Play at Saint Joseph's Invitational This Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's tennis team continues its fall season this weekend with play at the Saint Joseph's Invitational. The Owls will send nine players to the tournament, which is held at the SJU Tennis Complex at the Maguire Campus (outdoor) and Finnesey Courts on September 27-29.
Seniors Jordan Batey, Yana Mavrina, Alicia Doms and Carly Bohman, as well as junior Rebecca Breland, sophomores Minami Okajima and Jasmine Merali and freshmen Anais Nussaume and Dina Karina will take the court for the Cherry & White.
In addition to Temple and Saint Joseph's, five other schools will participate in the event, including Delaware, Loyola (Maryland), Lafayette, Fairfield and Saint Francis (PA).
Temple will send four doubles teams to the Invitational, consisting of Batey & Karina, Okajima & Bohman, Doms & Nussaume and Mavrina & Breland.
In the opening round of the singles bracket, TU players will face three different women from Fairfield. Mavrina will take on Monica Yajima at the first flight at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Okajima will play Allison Radde at 8:30 a.m. at flight two and Merali will play Stephanie Ziegler at the fourth flight at 11:30 a.m.
Also playing at flight one, Doms will take on Loyola's Megan Hahn at 8:30 a.m. Breland and Nussaume are both active in the second flight. Breland has a bye into the second round, and will play the winner of SFU's Alex Sachs and SJU's Devi Jadeja at 1 p.m., while Nussaume takes on Lucy Jasso of Saint Francis at 8:30 a.m. Batey and Karina represent the Owls in the third flight with Batey playing at 10 a.m. against Lafayette's Catherine Senopolous and Karina taking on Danielle Gryckiewicz from Saint Francis, also at 10 a.m. Bohman is the other TU player at flight four, facing Michele Vona of the host school in the opening round at 11:30 a.m.
In doubles action, Doms and Nussaume earned a bye at flight one, and will face a duo from either Fairfield or Saint Joseph's at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. Mavrina and Breland are also competing at the first flight and will take on Fairfield's Radde and Sharissa Ryan at 1:30 p.m.
Also competing at 1:30 p.m. in doubles play are Okajima and Bohman. The pair takes on Loyola's Alexandra Billups and Meredith Dwyer. Batey and Karina are TU's final representatives in doubles play, competing against Tori Almeida and Lauren Tracy of Lafayette at 2:30 p.m.
