Men's Tennis Participates in Penn Invitational With Matches at TU Pavilion

9.26.13 | Men's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team will participate in the Penn Invitational this weekend, Friday-Sunday, September 27-29. As a result of an overload of teams and lack of court space at Penn, Temple will play at least its first two matches of the flighted tournament on its home surface at TU Pavilion.

Action begins for the Owls at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with a match against Buffalo. The team will play at TU Pavilion again at 2 p.m., facing the loser of a match between Lehigh and Brown taking place earlier in the day. This weekend marks the only time this fall the Cherry & White will be playing at home.

Sophomore Hicham Belkssir leads the team with a 6-0 singles record through two weekends of play in the fall. Belkssir claimed the title of the Jersey Flight at the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational the last time the team was in action two weeks ago. Also boasting solid fall singles records are sophomores Santiago Canete and Sam Rundle. Canete has gone 4-2 while Rundle is 4-1.

In doubles play, Canete has paired up with classmate Nicolas Paulus to go 2-2, while Rundle and junior Hernan Vasconez have also posted a 2-2 mark.
