Batey Wins Third Singles Flight at SJU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – Senior Jordan Batey won the third singles flight for Temple at the SJU Invitational, held at Saint Joseph's this weekend. The senior posted a 4-0 record on her way to the title.
Batey, who won her opening two matches on Saturday, took on Lea Winkler of Drexel in the semifinal round on Sunday morning, winning 6-4, 6-2. She then claimed the title with an identical score victory over Delaware's Christina Harrington in the championship match.
At the first singles flight, Alicia Doms entered Sunday with her quest for a title still in tact. The senior faced Aurora Davis of Saint Joseph's in the semifinal round, falling 7-6(3), 6-1. Yana Mavrina was also still active, playing in the consolation bracket of the first flight. She defeated Mikelle Mancini of Villanova, 6-4, 6-1, to move into the consolation final. Loyola's Megan Hahn got the better of the senior, taking a 6-3, 7-5 win over Mavrina.
At the second flight, Rebecca Breland was in action Sunday, facing Nataliya Naumova of Delaware. The junior fell in the quarterfinal match, 7-5, 6-0, to end her challenge for a title.
In doubles action, the pair of Batey and Carly Bohman were vying for a shot into the championship match, going up against Lucy Jasso and Danielle Gryckiewicz of Saint Francis in the semifinal match. The duo dropped the match, falling 8-4.
The Owls are back in action next weekend with play at the Lehigh Invite on October 4-6.
