Temple Women's Gymnastics Finishes Third at George Washington Invitational to Start 2014 Season

WASHINGTON D.C. — Temple Women's Gymnastics started off the 2014 season on Sunday at the George Washington Invitational, finishing third in the four team event with a score of 186.775. George Washington finished first with 193.025, Cornell second (188.750), and Penn fourth (183.125).
Temple finished vault with a 47.975, garnering its most points among the four events while finishing third in the event. Briana Odom led the Owls in the event with a score of 9.675 in her first collegiate meet. Alexis Arena placed right behind Odom, scoring 9.650. Victoria Reggiana (9.575), Brittanie DeMeno (9.550) and Mikaela Postlethwait (9.500) rounded out the vaults for the Owls.
The Owls finished second on bars (46.700) and beam (46.300) and fourth on floor (45.800).
Reagan Oliveri finished fifth on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.625. Tara Kilkenny finished right behind her in the event with 9.600. DeMeno (9.300) finished 11th, while teammates Heather Zaniewski (9.125) and Postlethwait (9.050) finished 13th and 15th.
Oliveri placed second on the balance beam with a score of 9.625, giving her the highest individual placing for Temple in any event. Zaniewski (9.500) also placed in the top 10 in seventh place. Jean Alban placed 13th with her score of 9.275, while DeMeno (8.975) and Arena (8.925) rounded out the scoring for the Owls.
Freshman Rebecca McAndrew, in her first collegiate meet, led the way for the Owls on the floor exercise with a score of 9.425, placing 13th. Brianna Ferdinandi and Oliveri finished right behind McAndrew, both having a score of 9.400. Odom had a score of 8.800, and Postlethwait finished the scoring for the Owls with 8.775.
Oliveri finished third in the all-around, having a combined score of 38.175. DeMeno finished sixth with her score of 36.475.
Temple will train for Thursday's meet at Bridgeport, which is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. Yale and Southern Connecticut will also compete against the Owls.
